Gas

The small BNB payment that powers every on-chain action — explained simply.

5 min readBeginner

“Gas” is the small payment, made in BNB, that powers every action you take on the blockchain. It has nothing to do with Trustfy's own fees — think of it as postage for a letter, paid to the network that delivers it, not to whoever you're writing to.

Why gas exists#

Every action on BNB Smart Chain — matching a trade, releasing funds, submitting evidence — has to be processed and permanently recorded by the network. Gas is the small payment that compensates the network for doing that work. Without it, the network would have no way to prioritize real transactions or prevent spam.

Who receives it#

The BNB Smart Chain network itself — specifically, the validators who process and confirm transactions. Trustfy never receives your gas payment; it goes entirely to the network, independent of any Trustfy fee.

When you'll pay gas#

ActionCosts gas?
Browsing the marketplaceNo
Signing in (SIWE)No — it's a free signature, not a transaction
Publishing an adYes — small

Funding escrow / marking paid / releasingYes — small, each step
Opening a dispute or submitting evidenceYes — small

Roughly how much#

Individual actions on BNB Smart Chain typically cost a fraction of a cent to a few cents worth of BNB — BSC is designed to be inexpensive compared to some other networks. Keeping the equivalent of a few dollars in BNB in your wallet comfortably covers many actions.

Not enough BNB = a stuck transaction

If your wallet doesn't have enough BNB to cover gas, your wallet will simply refuse to send the transaction — nothing partially happens. Top up a small amount of BNB and try again. See Troubleshooting if this keeps happening.

Getting BNB#

Most wallet apps have a built-in “Buy” button for purchasing BNB directly with a card or bank transfer. You can also buy BNB on any major exchange and send it to your wallet address. See Wallet Setup for the full walkthrough.

Does gas go up with trade size? No — gas depends on the complexity of the action, not the dollar value being moved. A 10 USDT trade and a 10,000 USDT trade cost roughly the same gas.

Can gas prices spike? Occasionally, during periods of high network activity — but BSC's gas costs remain low relative to many other networks even then.

If my transaction fails, do I lose the gas I paid? A transaction that fails after being processed can still consume a small amount of gas; one that your wallet blocks before sending (for insufficient funds) costs nothing.
